Good news — you can keep your domain registered with us and still run your website on Shopify. Shopify does not use a nameserver change to connect a domain you registered elsewhere. Instead you point two DNS records (an A record and a CNAME) at Shopify. Your domain stays on our nameservers (ns1–ns4.mydnscloud.com).
The records Shopify needs

Shopify also shows these to you in your Shopify admin under Settings → Domains → Connect existing domain — enter your domain (for example yourbusiness.co.za, without www) and Shopify lists the exact records.
How to connect it
- In Shopify, go to Settings → Domains → Connect existing domain and enter your domain.
- Add the A and CNAME records above to your domain’s DNS zone. Because your domain runs on our DNS, the easiest way is to send us the records and we’ll add them for you — message us on WhatsApp with your domain name and “connect to Shopify”.
- Back in Shopify, click Verify connection.
Good to know
- Changes usually take effect within a couple of hours, but can take up to 48 hours to go fully live.
- After connecting, your A record may show a slightly different Shopify address (for example
23.227.38.32) — that is normal and still correct. - If your DNS panel asks for it, add a trailing dot on the CNAME target:
shops.myshopify.com. - Your Shopify store address (the
xxxxxx.myshopify.comone) is just your store’s internal address — it is not the CNAME target. Always pointwwwtoshops.myshopify.com.
